The Locomotive
The locomotive servicing us today is the EFOM no.42, with seven passenger trains.
Recently out of repair, the locomotive's mechanical, exterior and interior have all
been meticulously restored to its present excellent condition.

4. The 4-6-0 Baldwin EFOM no.42 at the São João station
Designated builder no.38050 by Baldwin, the 30-inch (76cm) narrow-gauge train was
built in 1912 for EFOM. It changed owners several times, as EFOM was succeeded by
RMV, then VCFO, then merged into the RFFSA in 1957. It is now owned by FCA, a private
railroad company. As seen above, the train was repainted to the original EFOM no.42
markings.

5. The Baldwin Locomotive Works
The passenger car's interior is also well preserved. Some of the cars have wooden
chairs, while a few others have leather covered ones with a different seating
arrangement (double seats on one side, single on the other side.) The alterations
which have been made seems only to conform with modern safety rules (e.g., there
is a PA system now on board, presumably for emergencies.) Otherwise, the passenger
cars have been kept as original as possible.

6. This particular train has wooden seats
I really enjoyed looking at the Engineer's Cab. The old style dials and levers were
really fascinating. It's hard to believe that this train is over 90 years old!
Everything is so remarkably preserved, let's hope it stays that way!

7. Pull this lever here and off we go, see?
